HILTON HEAD, SC - Freshman Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico) won his third straight match to open up his collegiate career, but the Hartwick men's tennis team lost to the University of Sioux Falls by a final match count of 8-1. The Hawks are now 1-2 in South Carolina with one match remaining on their schedule before returning to Oneonta.
Navarro earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nolan Wiese in number two singles for the Hawks' only win on the day. He improves to 3-0 with the win. Hartwick would come up short in the five other singles matches with Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA) and Peter Dumas (Albany, NY) each taking six games in the first and fifth flights. The Cougars swept the doubles competition winning all three matches.
Hartwick will try to even its record at 2-2 tomorrow against Lakeland (IL) at noon.
