St. Lawrence Defeats Hartwick Men's Tennis

CANTON, NY - Hartwick's men's tennis team opened up the 2010 season on Sunday with a dual match on the road at St. Lawrence University. The Saints swept all nine matches to come away with a 9-0 victory.

St. Lawrence swept the three doubles matches by scores of 8-4. In first singles action, sophomore Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Reg.) took seven games from Michael Hayden, but fell short 6-4, 6-3. Senior Matt Whitty (St. Catherines, ONT/Ridley College) won four games in fifth singles, but dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Chris McDonald.

The Hawks are idle for a month until their spring break trip to Hilton Head, SC from March 27-April 4. Hartwick's home and conference opener takes place April 7th against Utica at 4 p.m.
