  May 14, 2010

ROCHESTER, NY - The Empire 8 announced its 2010 Men's Tennis All-Conference teams on Friday with the Hartwick sophomore trio of Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Reg.), Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico/American Military), and Peter Dumas (Albany, NY/Colonie) earning distinction. Boyd and Navarro were named to the conference second team in singles for the second consecutive season. Boyd and Dumas were also selected to the second team in doubles.

Boyd, last season's Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, finished the season riding a five-match winning streak with victories against Union, RPI, Alfred, RIT and Elmira. He ended the campaign with an impressive 10-4 overall mark and an Empire 8 record of 6-2 at first singles. In his two seasons with the Hawks, Boyd has now won 18 matches.

Boyd and Dumas were the Hawks' top doubles team this season winning eight out of 14 matches. The duo went 4-4 in conference matches.

Navarro concluded the year with a 9-5 record in the second singles position. After beginning the year with two losses, he won eight of his next 10 matches and closed out the year winning four of his last five. He has a two-year singles mark of 20-10. Navarro was also named to the E8 Sportsman of the Year team for consistently maintaining a high level of sportsmanship and fair play throughout the 2010 campaign.

This season, Hartwick men's tennis recorded the program's first winning season since 1989 with an 8-6 overall mark. Coupled with last season's 8-9 mark, the Hawks' 16 wins ties for the highest two-year total in College history.
