Hawk Women Fall at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. - Erika Steele led four players in double figures as Ithaca soundly defeated Hartwick 101-39 in Empire 8 Conference women's basketball action, Saturday afternoon at Ben Light Gym.

The Bombers, now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in league action, roared out to a 12-0 lead before the Hawks got on the board at 16:43 as Samantha Galm (Kingston, N.Y.) drained a jumper. The sophomore scored Hartwick's first five points of the contest. Leading 25-11 with 10:55 left in the first, Ithaca put the game out of reach with a 21-0 run to up the lead to 46-11. The Bombers took a 54-18 lead into intermission.

Steele netted a game-high 16 points, while Jordan Confessore posted a career-high 15 points. Hartwick was paced by Heather Pruchansky (Naples, Fla.). The sophomore netted a career-high eight points in nine minutes of action, including drilling a pair of three-pointers. Galm finished with seven, as the Hawks fell to 1-4 overall, 0-2 in league action.

Ithaca shot a school record 58 perfect from the floor, hitting on 40 of 69 shots. The Bombers went 11 of 16 from beyond the three-point line.

Although Hartwick lost the battle of the boards 46-38, the Hawks grabbed 23 of them off the offensive glass. Brooke Anderson (Hopkinton, Mass.) paced the rebounding efforts with six, while Danee Harrison (Ansonia, Conn.) hauled down 5.

Hartwick will return to action, Tuesday evening as it hosts Oneonta State as part of a doubleheader with the men. Tip-off at Binder Gym is set for 6 p.m.
