Flores Picked as Empire 8 Player of the Week

  January 6, 2009
Fritzi Flores

ROCHESTER, NY - On Tuesday, the Empire 8 Conference announced Hartwick College sophomore guard Fritzi Flores (Bergenfield, NJ) as its Co-Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performance this past weekend. Flores shares the distinction with Ithaca's Tracy Bradley. It is the second straight time a Hartwick player has received the honor. Forward Danée Harrison (Cary, NC) was the conference Player of the Week the last time it was handed out on Dec. 15.

Flores scored a career-high 20 points, including 14 in the second half, to lead Hartwick to an 80-70 win over St. John Fisher, snapping a seven-game Hawks' losing streak to the Cardinals. She hit three 3-pointers, handed out three assists, and recorded a team-high four steals in the process. Flores leads the Hawks in steals (19) and is the team's second-leading scorer averaging 8.1 points per game.

The Hawks are 5-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They host Alfred University in another Empire 8 clash at 6 p.m. on Friday at Binder Gymnasium.
