Pioneers Roll Past Hartwick Women's Hoop Team

UTICA, NY - Utica College improved to 8-5 and 5-2 in the Empire 8 Saturday night with a 75-43 win over Hartwick at Harold T. Clark Gymnasium in Utica. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-8 and 1-4 in E8 play.

The Pioneers were led by Devon Croll, who netted 21 points on 7 for 9 shooting and made all three of her three-point attempts on the night. Jessica Barry added 13 points and secured a team-high nine rebounds.

The Hawks went without a player in double figures. Fritzi Flores (Bergenfield, NJ) scored a team-high eight points. Danée Harrison (Cary, NC) pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds including six offensive boards.

UC bolted out to a big lead quickly scoring 14 of the game's first 16 points in the first five minutes of the contest. The lead would grow to as many as 26 in the first half as the Pioneers grabbed a 32-6 advantage. 'Wick would end the first session on a 15-6 run, but Utica still led by 18 points, 39-21.

The second half saw the Pioneers go on a 12-4 spurt to take a 51-25 lead after five minutes of action and they led comfortably by 24 points or more for the remainder of the game.

The Pioneers ended the night shooting 51% as a team. The Hawks shot just 27%. Utica also held a 40-33 edge in rebounds.

Wick will be on the road next Tuesday at Stevens before hosting a pair of home conference games next Friday and Sunday against Elmira and RIT, respectively.
