Ducks Too Much for 'Wick

HOBOKEN, NJ - Stevens' Dani Dudek missed a triple-double by one rebound to lead the Ducks to a 70-48 win over Hartwick in Empire 8 women's basketball on Tuesday night in Walker Gymnasium. The senior guard was all over the court recording game-highs of 24 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in the contest. With the victory, the Ducks improve to 13-2 overall and sit in second place in the conference standings at 5-1. The Hawks, are 5-9 and looking to snap a six-game conference slide after opening the season with a win at St. John Fisher.

Senior Katie Caddell (Amsterdam, NY) led Hartwick offensively with 13 points. She hit three of her six attempts from three-point range in the game. Junior Cassie Dresser (Ovid, NY) contributed eight points and seven rebounds for the Hawks, while Danée Harrison (Cary, NC) picked up seven points and a team-high eight boards.

In addition to Dudek's 24 points, Brittany Fuller added 17 markers and Jillian Barrett notched 12 points and eight rebounds for Stevens. In the early going, the Hawks used a 9-2 run to take a 13-10 lead on the Ducks led by five points from Caddell with under 14 minutes to go in the opening stanza.

The lead would change hands several times over the next eight minutes of action before Barrett sank a layup with 5:38 remaining to give the Ducks the 25-24 advantage which they held for good. The Hawks would go scoreless for close to five minutes while Stevens hit five of their eight shots in the span to take an 11-point lead at the break.

The Hawks would keep the game close in the first six minutes of the second half and trailed 47-40 with 14:19 left to play. The Ducks, however, would go on a 12-0 run in the next six minutes to take control. They would lead by 15 points or more the rest of the contest.

Stevens outscored Wick 36-11 in the paint and the Ducks netted 28 points off Hartwick turnovers in the game. The hosts finished the contest with a slight edge in rebounds, 36-32, and they hit 54% as a team for the game. Hartwick hit 26% from the field on 15 of 57 shooting.

The Blue and White is back home this weekend for a pair of Empire 8 games at Binder Gymnasium. The Hawks host Elmira (6-8, 2-4 E8) on Friday night at 6 p.m. and RIT (3-12, 0-6 E8) on Sunday at noon.
