  December 2, 2008
Senior Katie Caddell

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - Hartwick held Skidmore to just one point over a 10-minute span in the first half and led 40-19 at the break in an 81-66 victory at the Sports & Recreation Center Tuesday night. Junior guard Lauren Ploof (Hammond, NY) led four Hawks in double figures with 16 points. Kara Foro (Schenectady, NY) and Katie Caddell (Amsterdam, NY) each added 14 points, and Cassie Dresser (Ovid, NY) scored 11. The victory evens the Hawks' record at 3-3 for the season. Skidmore drops to 2-3.

The Hawks went on an 18-1 run in the first half turning a 9-9 game into a 27-10 advantage over a 10-minute span before the Thoroughbreds were able to finally convert a basket. A layup by Skidmore's Christina Gargiso with 14:10 left in the first stanza would be the hosts' last bucket until the 4:39 mark when Megan Gaugler connected on a layup. The team would miss 11 straight shots from the field in between the two baskets with Laura Michel accounting for the lone point on a free throw.

Krystle Crouse (Canajoharie, NY) led the way for the Hawks in the big run with six points. 'Wick would end the half shooting 54.2% while holding the Thoroughbreds to just 29.6%.

Early in the second half, the Hartwick lead would grow to 23 before Skidmore would chip away at the deficit. The home club got the advantage down to 11 points, 47-36, with 11 minutes remaining, but the Hawks held them off and never led by less than 12 points for the rest of the contest.

Hartwick had nine players make it into the scoring column on the night. Dana Leonard was Thoroughbreds' only player to score in double digits with 14 points. Gaugler finished with nine points and Michel dropped in eight and registered a game-high eight rebounds.

The Hawks end the fall semester in 12 days with a home game on Sunday, December 14 at 4 p.m. against Clarkson. Skidmore travels to Lehman College on December 6.
