ONEONTA, NY - The Hartwick College women's lacrosse team fell to visiting St. John Fisher College by a score of 18-5 on Sunday in the final home game of the season for the Hawks. Fisher took command early scoring 11 goals in the opening 15 minutes of play en route to the win.
Five different Hartwick players scored goals on the day. Freshman Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT) registered a goal and an assist. Sophomores Tiffanie Bishop (Shoreham, VT) and Briana Crow (Scotia, NY), and freshmen Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY) and Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY) each scored a goal apiece. Fellow freshman Glynn Couch (Watertown, NY) dished out one assist. Fisher controlled play from start to finish in the first half.
The Cardinals would end the period with a 33-3 advantage in shots and they controlled 13 of the half's 16 draws. In addition, the Cards' defense made it difficult for the Hawks to clear their own end of the field as they went just 3-of-14 in the half. Lauren Glavin led the way for Fisher in the period with three straight goals in a 3:32 span. Ashley Fenyn, Courtney Clare, and Meg Merriam each tallied twice as the team took a 13-2 lead into halftime.
For the Hawks, Walsh scored her 17th of the season five minutes into the game and Crow took the ball from midfield and scored for her first tally of the season three minutes before the break. Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY) would stop 12 shots in the first 30 minutes which was a season-high for saves in a half by the sophomore.
In the second half, Kennedy set up LaVaute for her 13th of the season after 8:11. Kennedy then took one for herself starting from behind the cage and beating Fisher's Vicki Sahm with 17 minutes left. Bishop would net her 20th of the season 1:32 to finish up the 'Wick scoring.
Kaye, who finished with 19 stops, once again had a game-high eight ground balls. Bishop would add three and LaVaute and Emily Piedigrossi (Cortland, NY) recorded two apiece.
The Hawks are off until Thursday, April 23rd when they travel to Wells College (4-6) for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
