
ONEONTA, NY - Visiting RIT rallied to break open a four-goal game late in the first half en route to an Empire 8 win over Hartwick's women's lacrosse team. The game was the final regular season game for both clubs. Hartwick finishes 2-11 overall while RIT improves to 11-4 and 6-2 and clinched the third seed in the conference playoffs.
The Hawks played step for step with the favored Tigers throughout the first half of play, limiting them to just four goals in the opening 26 and a half minutes of play. Danielle Previ, who finished with four goals, opened the scoring for RIT after over seven minutes of scoreless play to start the contest. The Tigers would add three more goals over the next seven minutes for a 4-0 advantage.
With three and a half minutes showing on the clock, RIT scored twice in a one-minute span before Hartwick freshman Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) got one back for the Hawks. Instead of 'Wick heading into halftime down by five, three RIT tallies in the final 45 seconds of the half gave the visitors a 9-1 lead.
Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) scored early in the second half for her 29th goal of the season and 49th of her career. The Tigers would then score the next seven goals, five from Shelby Vakiener, before Scicchitano scored her 25th of the season late in the contest for the final 17-3 score line.
Goalkeeper Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) made 12 saves for Hartwick, including seven in the second half alone. She also recorded a team-high five ground balls and caused two turnovers. LaVaute had game-highs of four caused turnovers and three draws. Tiffanie Bishop (Shoreham, VT/Middlebury) registered four GBs and two caused turnovers, and Jalicia Connell (Westbury, NY/Hicksville) grabbed three ground ball pickups.
