ROCHESTER, NY - A trio of Hartick College women's lacrosse players were recognized as the Empire 8 announced its 2010 All-Conference teams. Sophomore midfielder Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) and sophomore defender Emily Piedigrossi (Cortland, NY/Cortland) each garnered E8 Honorable Mention. Classmate Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon) was selected to the Sportswoman of the Year Team.
LaVaute led the Hawks in several offensive categories this season including goals scored (29), free-position goals (11), assists (9), and points (38). She was the only player on the team to score in every game this year, including a career-best six goals versus Elmira College on April 10th. She had multi-goal games eight times and multi-point efforts on seven different occasions. LaVaute also contributed 30 draw controls (ranked 3rd on the squad), 23 ground balls (T-4th), and 15 caused turnovers (2nd). In two seasons with the program, LaVaute has accumulated 49 goals and 13 assists for 62 points. She has registered 51 draws, 48 ground balls, and 24 caused turnovers.
Piedigrossi played as a defender and midfielder throughout the season for Hartwick starting all 13 games. She contributed to the 'Wick offense with four goals and two assists. Piedigrossi began the season scoring the game-winning goal against Wells on March 10th. She added assists in consecutive games against Alfred and Stevens, including career-bests of four ground balls and three caused turnovers versus the Saxons. She netted two goals against Elmira on April 10th and notched a goal in Hartwick's 13-8 victory at Marywood on April 23rd. Piedigrossi recorded 12 cause turnovers which ranked 3rd on the team and added 16 ground balls and 14 draws.
Kennedy was Hartwick's representative on the E8 Sportswoman of the Year Team for consistently maintaining a high level of sportsmanship and fair play throughout the 2010 campaign. Kennedy scored 15 goals and dished out six assists this season to bring her two-year total to 29 goals and 10 assists. She scored two goals or more five times during the year and notched three points or more in four contests. She scored two goals with an assist in the Hawks' win over Wells, added a hat-trick versus Oswego, scored a pair against Stevens, and tallied twice with two assists in the victory over Marywood. Kennedy had perhaps her strongest game of the season in 'Wick's 14-13 overtime setback to Alfred in which she scored four second-half goals and assisted another, registered a game-high five ground balls, and a career-best four draws.
