ONEONTA, N.Y. - Freshman Briana Crow (Scotia, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal to pace Hartwick to a 2-1 victory over Manhattanville, Sunday afternoon in the consolation final of the 4th Annual Erinn K. Brozman Memorial Cup at Elmore Field.
The Hawks, 1-1 in 2007, opened the scoring at the 37:16 mark of the first half as Gina Troy (Manchester, Conn.) connected on her first marker of the year off a header from Kristen Mellan (Hillsdale, N.Y.). At the 58:33 mark of the second, Katie Van Vorst (Troy, N.Y.) set up Crow's goal to give Hartwick a 2-0 advantage.
Manhattanville, 0-2 overall, shaved the deficit to 2-1 at the 83:50 mark as Kathryn Moore set up Holly Nonis for the Valiants' first score of the tournament.
Hartwick goalkeeper Ashley Taylor (Nashua, N.H.) collected six saves in the victory for the Hawks.
Hartwick return to action, Saturday morning as it hosts Ramapo in the first round of the Seventh Annual Mayor's Cup at Elmore Field. The contest starts at 11 a.m.
Andrea Barker (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored the lone goal of the contest to pace Marywood University to a 1-0 victory over William Patterson to win the tournament title.
With the game tied at intermission, Barker gave the Pacers the lead for good a little over eight minutes into the second half at 53:04. William Patterson had two golden opportunities in the final 11:10 of the match, including Marywood goalie Meghan Coyle smothering a point blank shot by Samantha Flynn with 11:05 remaining. Coyle registered three saves in the victory.
Marywood, now 2-0 on the year, advanced to the title game by defeating Hartwick 1-0 Saturday afternoon, while William Patterson notched a 4-0 win over Manhattanville to advance to the title game.
