Late Stevens Goal Sinks Hawks in Season Finale

  November 1, 2008
Hartwick seniors Alesha Wright, Brittany Pine and Gina Troy prior to their final collegiate match with Stevens Saturday.

ONEONTA, NY - Stevens Tech scored in the 83rd minute to break a 1-1 tie in a 2-1 victory over the Hartwick women's soccer team on Saturday at Elmore Field.

Leslie Kallberg scored the game-winner for the Ducks at the 82:34 mark ensuring her team's spot in the upcoming conference tournament. The Hawks close out the season 5-10-3 overall and 2-5-1 in the Empire 8.

Kallberg also set up Stevens first goal of the match in the first half. As the clock ticked down, the half appeared destined to remain goalless, but a Kallberg corner kick found teammate Heather Goldberg just as the half was ending for a 1-0 Duck lead heading into the break.

In the 74th minute, senior Brittany Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY) netted her team-best eighth goal of the season to even the score at 1-1 and give the Hawks life, but just over nine minutes later, Kallberg's tally put the Ducks back in front to stay.

The Ducks took 15 shots in the match to the Hawks' three. Kellyn Rowse (East Greenbush, NY) made four saves in the Hartwick goal. Stevens keeper Jennifer Pontier made one stop.

Today's match marked the final contest of the careers of Gina Troy (Manchester, CT), Alesha Wright (Troy, NY), and Pine. The trio, along with senior goalkeeper Ashley Taylor (Nashua, NH) were recognized for their outstanding careers in a ceremony prior to the match.
