Brinkman finishes 1st and 2nd at Union Tri-Meet

SCHENECTADY, NY - Senior diver Ashley Brinkman (Ottawa, OH) garnered first and second in her two events on the afternoon as the Hawks' swimming and diving teams competed in Schenectady versus Union College and Springfield College. The Hartwick women's team ended up 23 points short of Union, 133-110, and the Hawks lost 161-82 to the Pride. The Hawk men's team dropped a 144-95 decision to the host Dutchmen and fell 133-110 to Springfield at the meet. 

Brinkman won the 1-meter diving event scoring 233.35, and placed second in the 3-meter competition with a point total of 231.70.

Senior Casey Whittaker (Salisbury, MA), junior Erin Gray (Gardner, MA), and freshmen Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) and Robyn Smith (Jupiter, FL) each recorded second-place efforts for the Hawks. Whittaker was 2nd in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.23), Gray finished the 100-yard freestyle in 11:04.27, Ha took the second spot in the 200-yard individual medley, and Smith was one position from top billing in the 200-yard backstroke with a final time of 2:15.65.

Freshman Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) highlighted the day for the Hartwick men with three wins. He earned first place in the 200-yard freestyle, the 200-yard individual medley, and the 200-yard breaststroke at the meet. His three wins on the day gives him six victories in his last three competitions.

Phillips finished with a time of 1:47.66 in the 200 free beating second-place Andrew Blakesley (Springfield) by over a second (1.04). He then touched the wall in 2:00.38 in the 200 individual medley, 2.21 seconds in front of the second-place finisher. To close out the day, he scored his third win in the 200 breast by just under three seconds with a time of 2:12.54.

Also on the men's side, senior Kevin Milkovich (Newburgh, NY) earned trio of second-place showings. He took the 2nd spot in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:16.53), the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.84), and the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.70). Freshman Josh Morey (Gloversville, NY), with a score of 251.70, took second in the 3-meter diving event, and sophomore Eric Goble (Bellefontaine, OH) was a second in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:05.93.

Both Hartwick swimming and diving teams are back on the road next weekend at St. Lawrence on Jan. 17 before returning home to Moyer Pool on Jan. 24 against Fredonia.
