Women's Swimming Takes 7th at State Meet

SYRACUSE, NY - Hartwick ended competition at the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championship meet on Saturday at Nottingham High School in Syracuse. The Hawks closed the three-day event with 646.50 points, good enough for 7th place out of 17 competing institutions in the state. In the Empire 8, the Hawks finished 4th.

Freshman Whitney Fletcher (Superior, CO) and sophomore Robyn Smith (Jupiter, FL) each recorded top-5 finishes on the day for the Hawks. Fletcher, a day after improving on her College record time in the 100 breaststroke, shattered the all-time Hartwick mark in the 200 breast. She earned a prelim time of 2:24.28 and a finals mark of 2:24.28. Both times were NCAA B-cut times. Smith took fourth in the 200 backstroke. Her finals time of 2:10.09 ranks second all-time at 'Wick.

In the 1650 freestyle event, senior Erin Gray (Gardner, MA) was Hartwick's top finisher in 7th (18:04.34). She was followed by classmate Erin Fleming (Northampton, MA) placed 15th (18:51.10), and Gabby Evans (Gardner, MA) finished 18th (19:03.50).

Senior Brittany Sherburn (Franconia, NH) registered a ninth-place finish in 3-meter diving. Her score of 340.30 was a personal record. In the 200 fly, Mallory Weber (Naperville, IL) placed 13th with Aylin Canpolat (Hewlitt, NY) following her in 18th.

Sophomores Kristen Grunert (Oakland, CA) and Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) took 16th and 17th place, respectively, in the 100 free. Grunert swam the prelims in 55.04 and the B-finals in 55.85. Ha touched first in the C-finals in 54.84.

Smith, Grunert, Ha, and Katie Holmes (Cotuit, MA) also teamed up for an 8th place showing in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:40.74.
