Nazareth Downs Hartwick Netters

ONEONTA, N.Y. Betsy Breaznell (Delmar, N.Y.), Anne Neely (Milton, Mass.), and Lexi Andrus (Binghamton, N.Y.) each won their respective singles matches, but it wasn't enough as visiting Nazareth defeated Hartwick 6-3 in Empire 8 women's tennis action, Sunday afternoon at the Hartwick Tennis Complex.

Breaznell downed Rachel Leonard 6-3, 7-5 at the top of the lineup, while Neely posted a decisive 6-0, 6-1 decision over Ellen Austin at number three. Andrus registered a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Danielle Carinci at number five. The final outcome was determined at the number four and six slots as both matches went into a final third set. Nazareth's Jessica Faber rallied from a set down to prevail over Lauren Aquino (Loudonville, N.Y.) 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at number four, while Golden Flyer Elizabeth Way held on to defeat Kim Post (Pepperall, Mass.) 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at the sixth spot of the lineup. Jackeline Martinez defeated Hartwick's Jennifer Lin (Albany, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-0 at number two.

The Golden Flyers opened the match by taking all three doubles points from Hartwick as the tandem of Leonard and Martinez defeated Breaznell and Lin 8-2 at number one; Faber/Sherrita Wilkins downed Aquino/Neely 8-6 at number two and Austin/Carinci posted an 8-3 win over Andrus/Rebecca Sarro (Newburgh, N.Y.).

Hartwick, 4-8 overall, will play at Potsdam State on October 6. The match starts at 1 p.m.
