TROY, N.Y. - Betsy Breaznell ( Delmar, N.Y.), Anne Neely (Milton, Mass.), and Kim Post (Nashua, N.H.) each split their singles matches in the opening day of the RPI Invitational, this weekend at Prospect Park.
Breaznell, a returning first team Empire 8 Conference honoree, dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Rensselaer's Progga Das before returning to post a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Laura Hale from St. John Fisher in flight 1 competition.
In flight 3 competition, Neely opened with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Rensselaer's Kristen Weiss and then returned to down Fisher's Lauren Jones 6-2, 6-1. Post, a freshman, edged Rensselaer's Charlotte Kaplan 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 before falling to Fisher's Brittany Klotzbeck 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 in the flight 6 singles draw.
In doubles, the duo of Breaznell and Lauren Aquino (Loudonville, N.Y.) teamed up to split its two matches. Das and Erica Sherman of Rensselaer posted a 10-2 decision over Hartwick’s top flight tandem. Breaznell and Aquino rebounded to defeat Hale and Klotzbeck from Fisher 10-4.
Doubles will be played on Sunday.
