Fisher Beats Hartwick Netters

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Jen Lin (Albany, N.Y.) and Lexi Andrus (Binghamton, N.Y.) claimed singles victories, but it wasn't enough as visiting St. John Fisher downed Hartwick 6-3 in women's tennis action at the Hartwick College Tennis Complex, Saturday.

The Hawks trailed 2-1 after doubles competition. The tandem of Betsy Breaznell (Delmar, N.Y.) and Lin registered the Hawks' lone victory at one doubles with an 8-1 decision over Brittany Klotzbach and Lauren Jones. However Laura Hale and Katie Barlow downed Anne Neely (Milton, Mass.) and Lauren Aquino (Loudonville, N.Y.)8-4 and Alicia Kaucher and Kate Neubeck defeated Andrus and Rebecca Sarro (Newburgh, N.Y.) 8-6.

Lin continued her solid singles campaign by coming back from a set down to record a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 win at number two singles over Jones. Andrus accomplished similar results as Lin by rebounding from a first set loss to finish with a 3-6, 6-4 (10-3) super tiebreaker victory over Klotzbach at number five. Breaznell fell 6-4, 6-1 to Hale at the top spot, Karcher downed Neely 6-0, 6-4 at number three, while Aquino lost a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Barlow. Kim Post (Pepperall, Mass.) and Neubeck slugged it out at number six singles as Neubeck edged the freshman 7-6 (12-10), 3-6 (12-10) in the super tiebreaker.

Hartwick will host Nazareth, Sunday at 1 p.m.
