
SCHENECTADY, NY - The Hawks won their first match in three sets and lost their second contest in three sets in their first two matches at the Union College Invitational in Schenectady, NY on Friday night. 'Wick rolled past Elms College in three straight sets, 25-7, 25-22, 25-17, and then fell to Skidmore, 27-29, 12-25, 12-25.
Against Elms, Courtney Desmond (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) and Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) combined for 21 kills to lead the Hawks. Desmond hit .474 for the match recording 11 kills in 19 attacks. She also added five aces. Mausert, in addition to her 10 kills, contributed 10 digs to tie for the team-lead with Tori Beck (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown). Senior Darcy Dolge (LaGrande, OR/LaGrande) registered a .700 hitting percentage in the match with eight kills on 10 attacks. She also added 13 assists. Shannon McGee (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) paced the Hawks in the assist category with 17.
In the second match of the night, the Thoroughbreds edged out 'Wick 29-27 in the first set and cruised in the next two sets by scores of 25-12. Desmond recorded another 10 kills while Beck and Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) each netted 10 digs apiece.
The Hawks play tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Hunter College and wrap up tournament play at noon versus Russell Sage.
