  October 3, 2009

ONEONTA, NY - The Hartwick volleyball team split four matches at the Oneonta State Red Dragon Invitational this weekend. The Hawks opened the tournament with a loss to Springfield and a win over Hunter on Friday and wrapped up play Saturday with a win over Plattsburgh and a setback to Lycoming.

In the team's opening match against Springfield, a team just out of the AVCA national poll in the "receiving votes" category, the Pride won the opening set 25-21 and rolled in the second two, dropping just 11 points total (25-6, 25-5). Tori Beck (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) notched 12 digs in the match for the Hawks.

'Wick avenged an earlier season loss to Hunter with a five-set win of its own in the nightcap. Both teams traded sets with Hartwick taking the first (27-25) and the third (25-22). Hunter won set two (25-17) and set four (25-23) setting the stage for a fifth and deciding set for the second straight time between the two clubs. This time, 'Wick came away victorious 15-13 for its fifth win. Darcy Dolge (LaGrande, OR/LaGrande) recorded the Hawks' first triple-double of the season with 39 assists, 11 digs, and 10 kills. Beck notched a career-best 45 digs to pace the Blue and White. Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) recorded 18 kills and 29 digs in and Courtney Desmond (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) had a team-high 19 kills.

Hartwick won its second straight match 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-15) over Plattsburgh. Desmond's 13 kills led the team. Dolge added 27 assists and Beck (16), Mausert (12) and Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) (10) all reached double figures in digs.

In 'Wick's final match the Warriors of Lycoming took three straight sets to earn the victory, 25-18, 25-19, 25-14. Beck notched another 15 digs and Dolge collected 12 assists.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Mausert was named to the all-tournament team. She ended the four matches with a team-best six aces, 54 digs, and 29 kills.

The Hawks are off for close to two weeks. The team hosts Morrisville Friday evening (Oct. 17) before entertaining Utica and Alfred Saturday (Oct. 18).
