BRIDGEPORT, PA - Five Hartwick women's water polo players received accolades as the CWPA announced the 2009 Women's Varsity All-Conference teams at the Annual Eastern Championship Banquet at the Holiday Inn-Boston/Somerville on Friday evening. Junior Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand) and sophomore Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA) were named to the All-North First Team, while junior Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, UT), sophomore Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand), and newcomer Sian Ells-Tewhiu (Wellington, New Zealand) were Second Team selections. Hartwick College's five selections ties for the most by any school in their respective division with Brown, Maryland, and Michigan.
Hudson, the 2007 and 2008 Northern Division Player of the Year, was named to the First Team for the third consecutive season. This season, she leads 'Wick with 122 goals, 76 assists, and 87 steals. She broke the all-time Hartwick records for career goals and points. She also broke the single-season benchmarks for season points and assists and became the first Hartwick player to break the 500-point mark with her three-goal, three assist showing against Brown in the Eastern semis Saturday.
McKee, after earning Northern Rookie of the Year honors last season, joins Hudson on the first unit. The sophomore is second in points (107), and third in goals (64), and assists (43) on the Hartwick team. McKee also leads 'Wick in drawn kick-outs (40), and 5-meter kick-outs (7). In just two seasons with the Hawks, she is just shy of cracking the all-time top-10 in the categories of goals, assists, and points.
Evans receives All-North honors for the first time in her successful three-year career. In 2009, Evans is second on the team in goals scored (65) and points (84). On the 'Wick career charts, she ranks 7th in points (249), 7th in steals (150), and is tied for 5th in goals (182).
Dorman is a second-team goalkeeper this season after garnering first team accolades in 2008. She has 386 saves this season, just 24 from her own record which she set a year ago. In only two seasons in the 'Wick cage, she is just three stops from breaking the College record of 798 stops held by Olivia Colebourne who played three years for the Blue and White. Dorman also has eight goals, 27 assists, and 34 steals this season.
Ells-Tewhiu has had a brilliant first season with the Hawks scoring 45 goals and assisting on 17 others. She ranks 4th on the Hartwick team in goals and 6th in points. She also is a two-time CWPA Northern Division Rookie of the Week, earning the honor on March 2nd and March 16th.
