Hawks Down Maryland; Face Michigan in Elite 8 Championship Tomorrow

BLOOMINGTON, IN - Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA/Laguna Beach, CA) and Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, UT/Lone Peak) powered Hartwick's water polo team past the University of Maryland on Saturday 11-8 at the Elite 8 Tournament at Indiana University. The win propels the Hawks into tomorrow's championship match against #8 Michigan.

McKee scored four goals and Evans added three for the Hawks in the win over the Terrapins. Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls College) added two goals and Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec/Lindsay Place) and Shannon Leonard (Pointe Clair, Quebec/John Rennie) each registered a goal.

After a 3-3 tie after the first quarter, Hartwick gained the upper hand with two goals in the second for a 5-3 lead at halftime. The Hawks extended their lead to three goals (7-4) heading into the fourth, and both teams netted four apiece in the final stanza for the 11-8 final score. Goalie Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan) made seven saves in the Hartwick cage.

Hartwick (14-3) plays the Wolverines tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The Hawks can pick up its second straight Elite 8 Tournament title with a victory and avenge a 14-11 loss to Michigan on Feb. 20th.
