Knox Leads Australia in FINA World League Superfinal

BRIDGEPORT, PA -- Former University of Michigan standout Betsey Armstrong made nine saves as the United States of America knocked off Hartwick College star Bronwen Knox (pictured) and Australia 12-11 in a shootout to capture the 2010 FINA World League Superfinal Championship in La Jolla, CA.

The game marked the second time at the tournament that the USA and Australia met and went to a shootout to decide the contest as Knox recorded a hat-trick in an earlier 15-14 American victory.

Armstrong made nine saves to raise her tournament total to 44 in four games after posting 12 saves in a 9-7 victory over Greece, seven stops in a 7-4 victory over Canada and 13 blocks in a 11-9 defeat of Greece.

Knox, the former two-time All-America, scored in the second and fourth periods while adding a shootout tally as the Australians entered the shootout tied at 7-7 with the United States. Overall, she concludes the tournament with 12 goals in five games as the Australians downed Russia (8-7 W, 12-8 W) and the Netherlands (10-7 W) while falling to the Americans twice (14-13 L, 12-11 L).
