
ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick's swimming and diving teams rolled to a pair of victories on Sunday afternoon at Moyer Pool in the final home meet of the 2008-09 season for the Hawks. The HC women's team downed Oneonta State 163-75 and Monroe Community College 163-63. Hartwick's men's team went 2-0 on the day by scores of 157-54 over Oneonta and 136-88 over M.C.C.
Two pool records, two school records and two NCAA Division III provisional qualifying scores were set by the Hawk women, who won every event but one on the day. Ashley Brinkman (Ottawa, OH) swept the diving events and Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) won a pair of races to pace 'Wick.
Brinkman earned a score of 248.65 in the 1-meter competition and 272.65 in the 3-meter event. Both scores were Hartwick and were provisional times for the upcoming NCAA Championships. Her score in the 3-meter event was also a Moyer Pool benchmark.
Ha won the 100 fly in 59.53 setting a pool record in the process. She also took first in the 200 IM (2:16.07) and teamed with Abby Wright (Holliston, MA), Kate Ahrendtsen (New Hartford, NY), and Kristie Grunert (Oakland, CA) to win the 200 medley relay.
Junior Erin Gray (Gardner, MA) won a pair of events for the second meet in a row, and senior Casey Whittaker (Salisbury, MA), and freshmen Shannan Lambert (Gardner, MA), Abby Wright (Holliston, MA), Robyn Smith (Jupiter, FL), and Sam McFarland (Derry, PA) also registered first-place efforts.
Gray was first in the 500 free (5:34.86) and 1000 free (11:14.68) for second straight day. Whittaker won the 100 breast edging Ahrendtsen by .30 seconds in 1:12.45, Lambert touched the wall in 57.53, and Wright won the 100 back in 1:04.12. Smith took the 50 free (26.16) and McFarland won the 200 free (2:03.19).
On the men's side, freshman Josh Morey (Gloversville, NY) earned a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying scores in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. He scored 299.85 off the 1-meter board setting a school record, and earned a first-place finish in the 3-meter event with a 288.90.
Seniors Tomie Schoening (Edan Prairie, MN), Steve Van Duzer (Tunkhannock, PA), Kevin Milkovich (Newburgh, NY), and freshmen Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) and Jake Morrison (Roanoke, VA) each scored first-place efforts for the Hawks.
Schoening won the 100 back (55.68), Van Duzer took the 100 fly (55.07), and Milkovich won the 200 IM (2:02.36). Phillips captured the 100 breast (1:03.00) and Morrison was first in the 1000 free (10:36.53).
Schoening and Van Duzer also combined with senior Gregg Ducey (Saunderstown, RI) and sophomore Billy MacElveen (Poughkeepsie, NY) for a 200 medley relay triumph.
Next up for the 'Wick women is the Empire 8/NYSCSA Championships in Syracuse from Feb. 18-21. The men compete in the same championships the following week from Feb. 25-28.
