ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick's swimming and diving teams each recorded victories over visiting Nazareth College on Sunday at Moyer Pool. The men's team, which is now 6-0 on the season, cruised to a 133-80 win over the Golden Flyers, while the women's team improved to 4-2 by pulling away to a 133-110 win.
In the men's meet, the Hawks won every race on the day and finished 1-2-3 in five different races to down their E8 rivals. 'Wick was also first and second in six other events. Sophomore Eric Goble (Bellefontaine, OH), and freshmen Jake Morrison (Roanoke, VA), Kaird Durocher (Bethlehem, PA), and Josh Morey (Gloversville, NY) each captured two events apiece for the Hawks.
Goble was first in the 1000 free (10:50.54) and the 200 butterfly (2:03.69), while Morrison took top honors in the 200 free (1:52.61) and the 500 free (5:11.40) events. Durocher was first in the 50 free with a time of 23.14 and the 100 free in 51.35, and Morey swept the diving events scoring 215.20 in the 1-meter event, and 205.55 in the 3-meter competition.
Steve VanDuzer (Tunkhannock, PA), Chris French (Newtown, CT), and Chris Milkovich (Newburgh, NY) each took individual events at the meet, and Billy MacElveen (Poughkeepsie, NY), Michael Phillips (Austin, TX), Milkovich and French won the 400 medley relay, and VanDuzer, MacElveen, Brett Mann (Saratoga Springs, NY), and French won the 400 free relay.
The Hawk women led their meet with the Golden Flyers from start to finish. Leading 51-42 after five events, 'Wick began to pull away as senior Ashley Brinkman (Ottawa, OH) won the 1-meter diving with a score of 230.00 and freshman Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) took the top spot in the 200 butterfly in 2:19.29 to give the Hawks a 78-53 lead, and they never led by less than 20 points the rest of the way.
Ha would also win the 200 free with a time of 2:02.21 on the day. Casey Whittaker (Salisbury, MA) won the 200 breaststroke event (2:38.76), and Abby Wright (Holliston, MA), and Katherine Holmes (Cotuit, MA) went 1-2 in the 200 backstroke. Wright touched the wall in 2:15.09 with Holmes just behind her in 2:18.91.
Wright, Whittaker, Ha, and freshman Kristie Grunert's (Oakland, CA) time of 4:14.26 was good enough for first in the 400 medley relay to start the meet for 'Wick.
Hartwick's swimming and diving teams take part in their final meet of November next Saturday in Clinton, NY. The Hawks face strong programs from Hamilton, Ithaca and Geneseo beginning at noon at William M. Bristol, Jr. Pool.
