Swimming and Diving Teams Compete at Hamilton Quad-Meet

Ashley Brinkman captured the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events on Saturday at Hamilton.

CLINTON, NY - The Hartwick College men's and women's swimming and diving teams each competed at the Hamilton College quad-meet against the Continentals, Geneseo State and Ithaca College on Saturday at William M. Bristol, Jr. Pool in Clinton, NY. The Hartwick women went 2-1 recording victories over Hamilton (139-104) and Ithaca (130-113) while coming up short against Geneseo (160-83). The Hawk men downed the host Continentals 131-110, narrowly were defeated by IC 126-117, and fell to Geneseo 159-84.

Senior Ashley Brinkman (Ottawa, OH) was a double winner on the afternoon sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events to lead the Hartwick women. She won the 1-meter event with a score of 219.15 which was 27.10 ahead of Hamilton's diver in second place. She also recorded a score of 209.50 in the 1-meter diving competition. The Hawks also earned a pair of second-place finishes and three three-place efforts on the day. Junior Erin Gray (Gardner, MA) was second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:09.16. She also was fourth in the 500 free.

Freshman Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) placed second in the 200 individual medley event in 2:16.07, and turned in a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:18.07). Abby Wright (Holliston, MA) was third in 200 backstroke, and Katie Swanson (Franklin, MA), Shannan Lambert (Gardner, MA), Samantha McFarland (Derry, PA), and Robyn Smith (Jupiter, FL) teamed up for third in the day's final event, the 400 free relay, with a final time of 3:53.17.

Hartwick's men's team was led by freshman Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) and senior Kevin Milkovich (Newburgh, NY). The pair combined for three first-place efforts on the day. Phillips took the top spot in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:02.23 edging out Geneseo's Aaron Wagner by five hundredths of a second. He also placed first in the 200 breaststroke touching the wall in 2:13.59. Milkovich won top billing in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.52. He also took second place in the 1000 freestyle (10:16.21) and third in the 500 free (4:59.90).

Steve VanDuzer (Tunkhannock, PA) was second in the 50 free (22:42) and he combined with Tomie Schoening (Edan Prairie, MN), Gregg Ducey (Saunderstown, RI), and Chris French (Newtown, CT) for 2nd in the 400 medley relay. Schoening also earned third in the 200 backstroke.

Hartwick competes for the final time in the fall semester next weekend at the Don Richards Invitational in Rochester, NY. RIT hosts the three-day event at Judson Pool.
