Dewar Union Lounge and Fitness Center
$2.8 Million Goal
... to build the William V. Campbell H'10 Fitness Center and to remodel the student lounge, café, and entrance.
There is a widely recognized need for a centralized space on campus – a living room for our extended family; a place with one purpose: to facilitate health, well-being, and community. The revitalized Dewar Union will be the physical heart of Hartwick and will meet the need that students identified as their top campaign priority on campus. Plans include a new lounge area dedicated to students, a remodeled Laura's Café, and a welcoming entry at Frisbee Field.
The flagship component of this Campaign objective will also be the only new building on campus. The William V. Campbell H'10 Fitness Center, a 6,500 square foot, state-of-the-art exercise facility, is designed to meet the needs of all students. Already under construction on the east side of Dewar Union, the center will include a range of fitness machinery and a multi-purpose room suitable for yoga and exercise classes.
The new fitness center is named in honor of William V. Campbell H'10, Chairman of the Board Directors of Intuit Inc., who made a leadership gift to The Campaign for Hartwick Students. A longtime friend of Hartwick's former Board of Trustees Chair Dr. James Elting, now deceased, Campbell received an honorary degree from the College in 2010. The Elting Fitness Center, located in the Binder Physical Education Center, will be upgraded as part of the Binder objective of The Campaign for Hartwick Students; it will continue to meet the needs the College's varsity athletes.
