Arts & Culture

Make art. Or just enjoy it.

Last year, students directed or acted in 15-20 plays. Seventy-five students exhibited their work in the Foreman Gallery, the art gallery housed in Anderson Center for the Arts. Well-known writers gave guest lectures, and there was lots and lots of music.

Some of the organizations that make Hartwick a rich and multi-dimensional experience:

Students are challenged to explore a vast range of traditional and non-traditional ideas, materials and art forms. Art students contribute projects to junior and senior exhibitions and the ARTistocracy Society's annual "Peep Show" is a campus tradition. More about the Art & Art History Department...

A totally student-run dance club, Orchesis performs to sell-out crowds twice a year. Dance styles range from tap to reggae to modern/interpretive dance. More about student activities...

Music, Music, Music
Hartwick is home to a large number of music clubs and organizations open to all students. During the year, you also can attend performances by renowned musicians, ensembles, and our music majors, especially during Senior Thesis season. More about the Music & Music Education Department...

Activities for Writers
An American Indian poet and a novelist from Trinidad have come to read their work and share their experiences as published writers and artists. The Visiting Writers Series is run by the English Department, which has tons going on, including Word of Mouth (a literary magazine devoted to publishing student poetry, prose, and art work) and the annual Anna Sonder Prize for best student poem. The Yager Museum of Art & Culture
Home to more than 20,000 items, with five versatile gallery spaces for permanent and special exhibitions, the museum also provides research facilities for Anthropology and Fine Arts students and a space for exhibitions of student art. More about the Yager Museum of Art & Culture...

Theatre Clubs
This spirited chapter of the Alpha Psi Omega national honorary theatre fraternity publishes a periodic newsletter, and The Cardboard Alley Players, a student-run theatre group, present two major productions annually and several smaller plays during the year. More about Hartwick Theatre...
