Meet the Counseling Center Staff


Gary Robinson

Gary Robinson, Director of Counseling Services

Gary is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) as well as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and is licensed to practice in New York and Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Pittsburgh's School of Social Work program and holds a masters degree of science in Counseling Psychology and an Educational Specialist Certificate from the State University of New York at Albany. Gary's professional interests include the management of depression and anxiety symptoms, substance abuse, crisis & critical incident stress de-breifing and cross cultural counseling.

Brandy Hubbard

Brandy Hubbard, Counselor

Brandy is a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW) in New York State, she obtained her Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She completed her clinical graduate work as a counselor for Crime Victims Assistance Center and as a counselor for Binghamton University's Counseling Center; both located in Binghamton, New York. Brandy's background includes extensive experience in providing support, awareness and prevention of sexual assault and dating/domestic violence; she is a NYS Certified Rape Crisis Counselor. Her professional interests also include self-esteem/self concept, childhood trauma and recovery, romantic relationship issues and family dynamics.

Joanna Singh

Joanna Singh, Counselor

Joanna is a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW) in New York State. She completed her graduate work at Smith College's School of Social Work (SSW) and the University at Albany SSW. Joanna is a proud Hartwick alum, graduating a JCH Scholar from Hartwick College in 2000. Joanna has worked with diverse populations in the mental health field, but most enjoys working with college students. Areas of special interest for Joanna include gender and sexual identity issues, existential therapy, evolutionary psychology, and neuro-psychology. Having traveled and lived abroad, Joanna also brings a multicultural perspective to her position in the counseling center.

Theresa vonHassel

Theresa vonHassel, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Theresa holds a masters degree in Family Practice as an Advanced Practice Registerd Nurse (RN) and a post masters degree as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NPP); she is also a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatry. She has worked in a large variety of mental health settings throughout her careear with all age groups and populations. 

Theresa provides psychiatric medication management to Hartwick students. She is on campus a limited number of hours per week at the counseling center; students must obtain a referral from one of the counselors to meet with Theresa.

Flannery Foster

Flannery Foster, MSW Graduate Intern

Flannery is an MSW graduate intern (Masters of Social Work) from the University at Albany; she will graduate in May 2014. Last year, Flannery completed her graduate internship at the Otsego County Chemical Dependency Clinic in Oneonta; she worked as a counselor, providing services to mandated and voluntary clients. Flannery also holds a masters degree in Forensic Psychology from Marymount University. Areas of special interest include self-esteem, marriage and family dynamics, neuropsychology and forensic cases. Flannery is very much looking forward to working with Hartwick College students and the campus community.

Sheila Paul

Sheila Paul, Administrative Assistant/Secretary

Sheila is the initial contact person at the Counseling Center. She wears many hats but her primary role includes answering the phone, greeting students when they arrive and scheduling appointments. Sheila is also the Administrative Assistant/Secretary for the Health Center; she is responsible for the entire Perrella Wellness Center building.
