The Hartwick First Year Experience is a College-wide initiative that utilizes a student-centered approach to foster learning and achievement inside and outside of the classroom. Such an approach is designed to cultivate students' self-directed learning, both the academic and personal dimensions of student development.

The Office of First Year Experience is committed to implementing this initiative, serving as a student's main point of contact throughout the orientation process and first year transition.

Vision
The Office of First Year Experience strives to inspire, challenge, and encourage the newest Hartwick students to embrace the College and Oneonta community while also evoking a sense of Hawks' pride and tradition.

Mission
The First Year Experience program facilitates first-year students' integration into the Hartwick College community through curricular and co-curricular initiatives designed to promote and support academic, personal and professional potential in the first year of college and beyond.

Goals 
The following goals serve as guiding principles in the development of Hartwick's First Year Experience:

Academic Growth and Development
Provide a curricular and co-curricular plan of instruction, advisement and coaching to facilitate the academic and personal transition to college and guides students in becoming independent members of the college community.

Academic and Career Selection
Develop a plan and partner with faculty and transition coaches to guide students in their development of academic and related career paths within and across chosen programs of study to meet needs, interests and goals.

Knowledge of Hartwick Resources
Facilitate the development of supportive relationships among students, faculty, and staff in order to create a college experience that maximizes each student's unique potential.
