FIFTY-FIFTY: A Peer Helping Service
Hartwick College counseling center offers students the option to meet with a trained peer for those who may feel more comfortable talking with a fellow student. 50-50 members are extensively trained and will "meet you halfway" by offering you information and support in a safe, non judgmental atmosphere.

What Are The Benefits Of Peer Helping?
Peer helping assists students to feel capable, understood and responsible. Peer helpers educate other students about decision-making skills, improving communication skills to understand others and to be understood. In addition peer helping enables students to learn action skills to help prevent substance abuse, enhance self-esteem, reduce loneliness, promote health, and support academic and personal achievement.

Oscar Baawuah, a junior from Bronx, NY. His major is Chemistry, with a minor in Economics. Oscar is an RA for Smith Hall.
Adrianna Benjamin, a sophomore from Brooklyn, NY. Her major is Biology/Pre-Med. Adrianna is a member of SOSU/BU (Society of Sisters United/Brothers United).
Megan Clampitt, a senior from Barrington, IL. Her major is Biology/Psychology with a minor in French. Megan is a member of Student Senate.
Haley Cox, a senior from Los Angeles, CA. Her major is Business Administration/ English Lit. Haley is a member of the Water Polo team, a Tutor and a Wickwire Phonathon caller.
Danielle Dillard, a junior from Apalachin, NY. Her major is Anthropology with a minor in Biology/Pre-Med. Danielle is a member of Student Senate, Pre-Med Club and FCA (Fellowship for Christian Athletes).

How Do I Make An Appointment With a 50-50 Peer Helper?
NO APPOINTMENT IS NEEDED, just drop in during office hours to meet with a 50-50 peer helper. If you wish to schedule an appointment, call or email the 50-50 office.

How Can I Become A 50-50 Peer Helper?
Each spring semester, the counseling center accepts applications for students interested in becoming a member of the "Fifty-Fifty" Peer Helping program. Interviews are conducted each spring; new members are carefully selected and extensively trained.
