Dr. Kim Fierke was appointed Director of Athletics/Physical Education Chair at Hartwick College in October 2010 to lead the institution's 15 NCAA Division III programs and two NCAA Division I programs (men's soccer and women's water polo). Prior to joining Hartwick, Kim was director of athletics and chair of the Physical Education Department at Salem College. She guided Salem through the NCAA provisional process and membership into the Great South Athletic Conference. She also designed and implemented Salem's exercise science major and coaching minor, and was part of the design and research phase of the Institute for Women's Wellness.
She is a veteran of NCAA Division III programs, where she has served as a student-athlete, assistant coach, head coach, and administrator. Prior to her appointment at Salem, Kim served as assistant athletic director and head women's basketball coach at St. Mary's University of Minnesota. A graduate of Concordia College in Minnesota, her team won the 1988 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. She received her doctor of education degree in leadership from Saint Mary's University and master's degree in sports management from Western Illinois University. She is and has been active on NCAA and other national committees.
Outside of athletics, she is busy raising three daughters and competing in triathlons.
