Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded at Hartwick College on December 11, 1949. TKE developed from a local organization, Theta Chi Rho. After loss of recognition in 1972, TKE was recolonized on November 17, 1993 from what was known as the Octagonian Society.

The Gamma Zeta chapter is a dignified organization that seeks out individuals who exhibit exceptional character and desire. Our goal is to attain members who can contribute positively to our chapter, can develop the ten values of membership in Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. To achieve these values in our new members we promote the participation in philanthropy, social and collegiate events as these strengthen individual character.
