CIV Mission
Hartwick College recognizes, supports, and promotes the importance of civic engagement as part of a liberal arts education. CIV is Hartwick’s student-led volunteer office that endeavors to provide meaningful opportunities that link Hartwick students with one-time and ongoing community service projects. Hartwick College strives to benefit both the community partner and the student with mutually rewarding services.
Students participating in Civic Engagement opportunities:
- Prepare for leadership roles through community involvement
- Develop problem-solving skills
- Become aware of broader community issues and their impact
- Experience valuable career development opportunities
- Explore personal ethical issues while learning to respect the values and opinions of others
- Grow through recognition of the needs and challenges of others
- Gain a sense of accomplishment through assisting within the community
