Reflections from Students

It was the greatest life experience. It is something that I will carry with me throughout my lifetime. Helping out kids in need has fulfilled a part of me, and has made me grow more as a human being. Before volunteering, a part of me was empty and I have been able to fulfill it by giving something back to others. Being able to help others has allowed me to find myself.

I had two standout volunteer opportunities as a Hartwick student. The first came my sophomore year when I became a NY State Certified Rape Crisis Counselor through Opportunities for Otsego. This experience opened my eyes to a world I never imagined. My second experience was working in Kiomoni Village in Tanzania. As a community development volunteer, I worked with disabled children and started a clean water project for the village. Working in a sub-Saharan African village was unlike any experience imaginable.
