Our mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and visitors to the Hartwick College community.
The Department of Campus Safety operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The office is located on the 3rd floor of Dewar Hall. To contact Campus Safety call 607-431-4111 or x-4111 from an on campus phone. The Director of Campus Safety supervises a safety force of ten safety officers and four dispatchers, and oversees Risk Management and Environmental Health and Safety issues.
Campus of Safety Officers are not police officers and do not make arrests. The Department is a proprietrary security force made up fully trained and certified security officers as required by New York State Law. The Department works closely with the Oneonta City Police Department and the New York State Police in investigating criminal activity on the campus. Campus Safety Officers are primarily responsible for maintaining a safe and secure living and working environment, the efficient flow of traffic and enforcement of parking regulations on campus, facilities security and property protection, emergency response, environmental and health safety, and assuring compliance with the rules and regulations of Hartwick College. Officers patrol the campus in vehicle and on foot and routinely patrol all dorm living areas, classrooms and office areas on campus.
Providing a safe and carefree campus community and environment is our main objective. A truly safe campus can only be achieved through the full cooperation of all the students, faculty and staff. Those of us in the Department of Campus Safety hope you will take the time to read the information contained in this website as part of your responsibility in creating a safe environment for yourself and others on campus. It contains valuable information on safety tips and programs, parking and traffic regulations, and how to report a crime.
The Office of Campus Safety works closely with the Student Affairs and Residence Life staff to implement programs aimed at increasing student awareness and safety while decreasing criminal incidents.
We hope all students feel comfortable here. Anyone may address their concerns directly to the Director of Campus Safety at any time. We believe student, faculty and staff input and feedback, is an integral part of a professional proactive, campus safety department.
The prevention of crime and ensuring a safe and secure environment is the responsibility of everyone. Working together we can keep Hartwick College a safe place to live, learn, work and visit.
