Citizens Board
Founded in 1954, the Hartwick College Citizens Board is a group of area businesspeople and civic leaders that promote Hartwick College and raise funds in support of its students and programs. Since its founding, the Board has been a bridge between Hartwick and the community, an important link for building on the strong relationship that has existed since the College's founding.
In addition to fundraising efforts on the part of individual Board members, the Citizens Board hosts an annual benefit Gala to support The Hartwick Fund. Each year, members of the Board's Gala Committee dedicate their time, talents, and resources to planning and executing an evening of excitement and entertainment enjoyed by the Hartwick and Oneonta communities. The theme for the 2011 Gala, held on June 3, was "Hartwick in Harmony: A Fine Arts Gala."
At every Gala, the Citizens Board honors the recipient of the annual Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award. The Board established this award in 1980 to recognize an area resident who exemplifies the mission of the Board: to act as an advocate for Hartwick and to affirm the mutually beneficial relationship between the College and the greater Oneonta community. The 2011 recipient is Calvin W. Chase '71 of Oneonta.
Hartwick College is grateful for the leadership and dedication provided by the Citizens Board and has benefited from the financial support and involvement of the community for more than 75 years.
