Following an extensive review, Desire2Learn (D2L) was selected as the technology platform for online learning as well as for online support for traditional classes at Hartwick College.
Only Blackboard Learn is being replaced by D2L. The College will continue to use Blackboard Transaction (eAccounts) for the WICKit Card, door swipes, etc.
During fall term, D2L is implemented on a limited scale, and faculty have the option of using either D2L or Blackboard. For students, this means that you may be working in two different platforms, depending on your classes.
The Blackboard Learn system continues to be used by some faculty for courses offered through December 20. Campus committees and organizations which use Blackboard Community may continue to do so through December 20, 2013.
The College community will use the Blackboard Transaction eAccounts system for WICKit Card transactions. All WICKit Card account deposits and information may be accessed through WICKit eAccounts. Beginning October 21, 2013, you can access WICKit eAccounts from the Hartwick home page >Current Students >Offices and Services, or from the Hartwick menu in Desire2Learn, or directly at https://eacct-wickit-sp.blackboard.com/eaccounts/.
As of January 1, 2014, D2L will be fully implemented as the College's Learning Management System. All Hartwick courses will be supported by D2L, and Blackboard Learn will no longer be available for use.
All campus administrative committees and organizations will be moved from Blackboard Community to D2L non-academic course offering pages.
All students, faculty and staff have access to Desire2Learn. You can log in at https://d2l.hartwick.edu using your Hartwick network username and Hartwick network password. Links to D2L can be found on Current Students and Faculty & Staff gateway pages under the Academic Info. tab.
Training on D2L will be through online tutorials, where you can learn how to post discussions, submit assignments, complete assessments (tests), and e-mail within the course. When you first log in to Desire2Learn, these tutorials are located on the homepage under D2L Student Videos. Training will be available to all students during the first week of J Term and spring semesters. Training opportunities for staff and faculty will be announced as they become available.
