Accounting major with minors in business administration and photography from Hampton Bays, NY

Why Hartwick?
I grew up in a small town, and when I visited Hartwick I felt the same type of atmosphere here. Everyone is so friendly and I felt like this was someplace I could see myself spending my next four years.

What are your classes like?
I feel challenged by the classes I take here at Hartwick. The professors here have so much experience and knowledge, I feel that I'm really learning a lot. A lot of the time I'll find myself signing up for higher-level courses that aren't required because I want to take more classes with my favorite professors. They really inspire me and push me to do my best.

What does "theory into practice" mean to you?
For me, this means learning about a subject and then actually putting it into motion and experiencing it yourself. Hartwick gives us so many opportunities to do this, through J Term, MetroLink and the internships that they offer. During J Term 2012, I went to China, taking the class Doing Business in Asia.  For my photography minor, I took classes and learned all about what I was studying and then I got an internship through Hartwick so I could see what it would be like to be a photographer in the business world.

What do you do outside the classroom?
I'm a sister of Alpha Omicron Pi, where I'm also the Treasurer of our house. This is great experience for my accounting major, and I'm learning a lot about how to deal with people and how to manage a business. I'm also a cheerleader for the Hawks, and I participate in our dance club, Orchesis. I spend a lot of time at my internship in the Marketing and Communications office. Other than that I like to go to Binder and work out or watch sporting events.

How do you describe Hartwick to your friends back home?
I'm always telling my friends to come here and visit because Oneonta is such a fun town. There are always activities going on at Hartwick, and downtown has so many fun things to do. There are so many fantastic restaurants and coffee shops in this town, I'm always trying something new! I think that anyone looking for their ideal college experience should consider Hartwick, because I've made the best friends I have here and made so many memories I'll never forget.

What comes after Hartwick?
After college I want to take some time off and travel and take pictures, but after that I'm going to look for a job down South as an accountant and maybe doing some photography work on the side.
