THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE
The story of the fatal charge of the English cavalry at the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War is presented in this Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Case®.  Ordered to advance against well-defended Russian artillery, the Light Brigade is destroyed by the jealousy and incompetence of its commanding officers.  The Earls of Cardigan and Lucan, brothers-in-law and sworn enemies, fight over matters of prerogative and recognition while their organization suffers.  Through lack of clear communication, organizational confusion and petty infighting, the brigade is doomed to destruction.
