MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY

This case study examines the contrasting leadership styles of Captain Bligh and Fletcher Christian.  Disgusted with Bligh's aurocratic style and confronted with an alternative lifestyle in a tropical paradise, some of the crew led by Christian mutiny and send Bligh and other adrift.  Although the focus is on this leadership contrast, elements of motivation, conflict, and group dynamics are apparent. The case study permits students to question authoritarian and coercive practices while appreciating the need for directive leadership.
