ON WAR
CARL VON CLAUSEWITZ
The work of literature, which this case study is based on, is a classic description of the guiding principles of military leadership, which places great emphasis on the moral and psychological as well as the technical and material aspects of effective strategy and tactics.  The aim of this case study is to get students to think about the nature of strategic planning and the role of leadership in the formulation and implementation of a strategic plan.  It identifies Clausewitz's conception of the goals and the tendency of war, the means employed in war, and the relation between military and political objectives.  The case study focuses on the application of these concepts to business and encourages students to consider whether and in what respects business and war are similar to each other.
