Hartwick Off-Campus J Term Scholarships

The 2016 Off-Campus J Term Scholarship application process is open and will close on Friday, March 13, 2015. 

Last year, Hartwick College awarded 23 Off-Campus J Term Scholarships

Important Off-Campus J Term Information:

  • This application applies to all available Off-Campus J Term Scholarships.
  • Scholarships are for domestic and international Off-Campus J Term Programs.
  • You must be in good academic standing (above 2.000 GPA) to be eligible for an Off-Campus J Term Scholarship.
  • The Off-Campus J Term Scholarships are highly selective; about 10% of students of who go on an Off-Campus J Term Program receive a scholarship (22% of last year's applicants received an award). 
  • The average award is approximately $2,200. (Rarely does an award cover the full cost of the program).
  • If you are awarded a scholarship, you are expected to pay the $500 deposit separately, as well as the remainder of the course fee according to this year's timeline (www.hartwick.edu/jterm).
  • A scholarship award does not imply acceptance into any particular program; the program application process is separate and may include different criteria, such as higher minimum GPA.
  • Once the online application process opens, apply as early as possible to reserve your spot in your preferred program.

Selection Criteria -Applicants will be selected based on the following factors:

  • GPA
  • Demonstrated financial need (based on information from the Office of Financial Aid)
  • Previous opportunities for travel and study
  • Quality of the Personal Statement
  • Quality of the reference
  • Students on academic or disciplinary probation may not apply

2016 Off-Campus J Term Program Scholarships

The Andrew and Betty Anderson J Term Scholarship
This scholarship was created by A. Bruce Anderson '63 in memory of his parents. This scholarship shall be awarded to students who wish to participate in a Hartwick College Off-Campus January Term Program. Students must demonstrate good academic standing, with financial need preferred but not required.

The Richard L. '62 and Carol V. Clapp J Term Scholarship
The Richard L. '62 and Carol V. Clapp J Term Fund was established in 2011 by Richard L. '62 and Carol V. Clapp. Proceeds from the fund will be used to support Off-Campus J Term programs.

The Dobert Family Scholarship
The Dobert Family Scholarship was established in 2009 by Kenneth Dobert '61 and Maureen Riley Dobert '63. The scholarship shall be awarded to students who wish to participate in a Hartwick College Off-Campus January Term program. Students must demonstrate good academic standing, with financial need preferred but not required.

The Duffy J Term Scholarship
The Anne K. and John P. H'00 Duffy January Term Scholarship was established in 2011 by Anne K. and John P. H'00 Duffy P'91, P'95. The scholarship shall be awarded to students participating in a Off-Campus J Term program with demonstrated financial need.

The Sarah Griffiths '88 and Timothy Herbert Endowed J Term Scholarship
The Sarah Griffiths '88 and Timothy Herbert Endowed J Term Scholarship was established in 2012 by Sarah Griffiths '88 and Timothy Herbert. The scholarship shall be awarded to students participating in an Off-Campus J Term program with demonstrated financial need.

The Florence and George Hutman Scholarship for International Study
The Florence and George Hutman Scholarship for International Study fund was established in 2009 by Dr. Norma Louise Hutman, in honor of her parents, Florence and George Hutman. The scholarship shall be awarded to students with demonstrated financial need, in good academic standing (overall GPA of 3.0 or higher) who wish to participate in an international study program sponsored by Hartwick College or of his/her own design with faculty advisement through Hartwick's Independent Study Program.

The International J Term Scholarship
The International J Term Scholarship benefits a student from an urban location and/or a disadvantaged community. The first preference is a student from Massachusetts, with students from New York being considered secondarily. The scholarship supports an international J Term experience for a student with high financial need.

The Landrey Family J Term Endowment
The Landrey Family J Term Endowed Scholarship was established in 2012 by Francis D. Landrey P'06 and Maureen T. Kilfoyle P'06. The scholarship shall be awarded to students with demonstrated financial need.

The Lynch Family Endowed Fund for J Term Study
The Lynch Family Endowed Fund for J Term Study was established in 2012 by Susan E. Lynch P'87 and Ronald P. Lynch, Jr. '87. The scholarship shall be awarded to students participating in an Off-Campus J Term program with demonstrated financial need.

The Mehri J Term Scholarship
The Cyrus Mehri '83 Endowed J Term Scholarship was established in 2012 by Cyrus Mehri '83. The scholarship shall be awarded to students participating in a J Term experience without restriction other than demonstrated financial need. 

The Morris J Term Scholarship
The Morris J Term Endowment was established in 2012 by Nancy M. Morris '74, H'06. The scholarship shall be awarded to students participating in an Off-Campus J Term program with demonstrated financial need.

The Brian '87 and Kristen Wilcox Endowed J Term
The scholarship shall be awarded to students participating in J Term study abroad, with preference for students with demonstrated financial need. 

The Josie Wright and Dr. Brian R. Wright, Esq H'02 Endowed Scholarship
The Josie Wright and Dr. Brian R. Wright, Esq H'02 Endowed Scholarship was established in 2010 by Dr. Brian R. Esq. H'02 and Mrs. Josie Wright. The scholarship shall be awarded to students participating in international or Off-Campus J Term study, with preference for international study and students with demonstrated financial need.

The Semenenko Clark Fund for Excellence in Art and Art History
The Semenenko Clark Fund for Excellence in Art and Art History provides scholarships to students who are majoring in art or art history to enable them to participate in Off-Campus J Term programs offered by Hartwick College during the January Term.
