Kasie Ziglar '14Senior psychology major with a sociology minor from Walton, NY
I chose hartwick because of it's close-knit community and small classes sizes.
What are your classes like?
My classes are phenomenal, all of the teachers are incredible and make the classes worth while.
What does "theory into practice" mean to you?
Theory into practice to me means that we are taking what we've learned at Hartwick and putting it into practice by applying it to everyday situations, or internships.
How have your professors made an impact on your education?
My professors have made a huge impact on my education, there were times I wasn't sure I'd make it through a specific class and every single one of them stood by me, helping me through step by step if needed. Not only is every Hartwick professor intelligent beyond belief, they are just amazing people in general. Not to mention the fact they all have lots of background in what they are teaching.
What do you do outside the classroom?
This year outside the classroom I joined the Center for Student Success by being a peer leader and a Wick 101 instructor for two transfer student classes. I also work full time at Springbrook, an institution for developmentally disabled children.
How do you describe Hartwick to your friends back home?
I explain to everyone that Hartwick is like it's own little community, every knows everyone and does everything they can to help. The staff and students are all super focused and kind.
What comes after Hartwick?
When I graduate this year I'm looking to go to a masters/Ph.D. program in clinical psychology for children. With that I'd like to continue as a clinical psychologist who diagnoses children with autism and follow those children through their lives helping their families with the new challenges and changes they are about to face.
What would you tell future Hartwick students?
Get involved. Hartwick has tons of amazing opportunities, take advantage of all of them and just do everything and anything you can do while you still can..
