Hartwick Circle K Sponsors Kids Craft Event TuesdayNovember 9, 2009
Circle K of Hartwick College's Inaugural Kids Craft Fair begins at 3:30 p.m. on November 10 in Stack Lounge, Dewar Union on the Hartwick campus. Members will work with children from area elementary schools on several craft projects. The event is free, and the public is invited to join in.
Circle K President Amanda Haines '10 explained that the fair is part of an International Club initiative to help children ages 6 to 13.
"The president of the international organization sent out e-mails about the initiative last year," Haines said. "It was called 'Making Arts a Reality for Kids.' The goal is to keep them doing positive things in their spare time. Also, one of our new members did a similar project in high school."
Craft projects include picture puzzles, paper plate fish, treasure boxes, and bean mosaics. Materials will be provided. Parents and siblings are welcome.
"I think it will be a fun, interactive alternative to their daily activities," said Circle K Vice President Meghan Boucher '12. "I think they'll be excited to work with older kids."
Circle K International combines community service projects with leadership training and networking opportunities for college students. Circle K of Hartwick College provides Hartwick students with service opportunities within the Oneonta community. Past service projects include cleaning up Table Rock, visiting local hospitals, and the annual charity ball.
