Hartwick Launches 18-Month Nursing Program with Open HouseApril 9, 2010
In an effort to help alleviate the nursing shortage in upstate New York while increasing access to stable, sustainable jobs, the Hartwick College Department of Nursing has launched a special 18-Month Accelerated Baccalaureate in Nursing Program. From 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, the department will host an Open House for all those interested, in Rooms 401 and 403 of Johnstone Science Center on the College campus.
The program, which will be tailored to meet the unique scheduling needs of adult learners, will be offered sequentially in three- to six-week blocks using a blend of face-to-face and distance, Web-enhanced teaching; classes and clinical/learning lab experiences will be scheduled on the weekends and in the evenings. It is designed for students who have completed baccalaureate degrees, or hold significant college credits in other disciplines.
"You can't outsource a nursing job," explained Jeanne-Marie Havener, Chair of Hartwick's Nursing Department. "This program will open doors for many area residents, allowing them to earn a Hartwick degree that will provide access to a crucial, varied, and exciting career as a nurse."
