Hartwick Welcomes Bread and Puppet Theatre to Pine Lake

October 21, 2010

The acclaimed Bread and Puppet Theatre will bring a workshop and performance of its "Decapitalization Theatre" to Hartwick College's Pine Lake Environmental Campus on Saturday, October 30. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the performance to follow at 3 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.

According to the performers, "The Decapitalization Circus demonstrates in 18 or 19 death-defying stunts the effects of the capitalization of life in the U.S. and citizens' courageous efforts of decapitalization. The performers represent the whole scale of the social spectrum from benign billionairism to despicable homeless anti-social-elementarianism. All the acts are FDA and FBI certified displays of patriotic correctness and defy all imaginable forms of terrorism. The Possibilitarians, a multi-instrumental variety ensemble, provide the appropriate-inappropriate sounds for the circus.... If some of the acts are politically puzzling to adults, accompanying kids can usually explain them."

Workshop participants will take part in the performance. To register for the workshop, contact Seth Lucas '10 at lucass@hartwick.edu or 607-431-4547. There will be a one-hour break during the workshop, during which a community harvest lunch will be provided. Bread will be baked on-site and served with a Pumpkin Ginger & Gruyére Soup during the performance.

This event is sponsored by Hartwick's Pine Lake Club, Cardboard Alley Players, & Grassroots Environmental Club. For more information, visit www.breadandpuppet.org or contact Lucas at lucass@hartwick.edu or 607-431-4547.
