Hartwick Commencement Events to be Held May 28-29May 11, 2010
Hartwick College will honor the Class of 2010 during a weekend of events May 28-29, celebrating the graduates’ accomplishments throughout their academic careers. This year’s Commencement ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, under a gala tent on Elmore Field, overlooking the city of Oneonta.
“The Hartwick community is proud of the accomplishments of the Class of 2010, and we look forward to a weekend of events celebrating their many achievements,” Commencement Coordinators Director of Social Issues and Wellness Education Tara Loewenguth and Registrar and Director of the Office of Advising and Registration Matt Sanford said. “Commencement is a memorable moment for our graduating seniors, and for their families and friends.”
As is tradition, four seniors will speak at Baccalaureate, the weekend’s opening event, at 5:30 p.m., Friday, May 28, at the The Foothills Performing Arts & Civic Center, 24 Market Street in Oneonta. Caitlin Strunk, Seth Lucas, PJ Prunty, and Dee Miller will reflect on their time at Hartwick College and wish their peers well in their futures. They will join Babcock Professor of English Susan Navarette, who will offer parting words of wisdom to graduates. Tickets are not required for Baccalaureate.
Baccalaureate will be followed by 1 to Go, a celebration of the countdown to Commencement for soon-to-be graduates, their families, faculty, and staff, at 8:30 p.m. Friday under a tent on Frisbee Field. The event is sponsored by the Hartwick College Alumni Association.
On Saturday, William V. Campbell, chairman of the board of directors of Intuit Inc., will deliver this year’s Commencement address to graduates, their families, friends, and the Hartwick community.
Before assuming his current position with Intuit in 1998, Campbell served as the company’s president and chief executive officer. He also serves on the board of directors of Apple Computer Inc. and is chair of the board of trustees of Columbia University, where he earned his bachelor's and master’s degrees.
Those unable to attend Commencement will be able to view the ceremony live via Webcast. Access to the Webcast and Windows Media Player can be found on the Webcast site.
