Forbes Names Hartwick One of America's Top Colleges

August 16, 2012

Once again, Forbes magazine has named Hartwick College as one of the best colleges in the United States. Hartwick placed 377th overall in this year's Forbes' ranking of the 650 best colleges and universities in the nation. Hartwick also ranked 281st among private colleges - up four places from last year.

"It is gratifying for Hartwick to be recognized by Forbes as one of the nation's top small liberal arts colleges," said Dr. Michael Tannenbaum, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Hartwick College. "What is more important than the rankings themselves, though, is that they remind us to remain focused on the factors that contribute towards these rankings, because these issues are so important to us, our students and their parents alike. I am confident that as the quality of our teaching remains strong and as Hartwick students stay competitive for national awards and positions in the job market and graduate programs, future recognition from Forbes will be assured."

Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing David Conway confirmed the importance of this year's ranking.

"Hartwick focuses on outcomes, an education that integrates classroom learning with hands-on, practical experience and prepares our students for lifelong careers and personal success, and so does Forbes, explicitly, in their rankings," said Conway.  "That's why this acknowledgment, placing Hartwick among the top 300 private colleges and universities in the country, is so important. Hartwick also ranks among the top 50 liberal arts colleges nationwide for median starting salary potential according to a recent report from Payscale.com. Ensuring the success of our graduates is our number one priority. It's what we do every day here at Hartwick."

This year's rankings from Forbes are based on five general categories: post graduate success, student satisfaction, debt, four-year graduation rate and competitive awards. Diving deeper into what matters most to students, the rankings concentrate on quality of teaching, great career prospects, high graduation rates and low-levels of debt. The rankings were compiled exclusively for Forbes by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for College Affordability and Productivity.
