James Jolly Named Executive Director of Marketing & Communications

August 23, 2010

Hartwick College is pleased to announce the appointment of James Jolly as Executive Director of Marketing & Communications. He will assume his position on August 9.

Jolly comes to Hartwick from Coker College in South Carolina, where he has served as director of marketing and communications since 1996. There, he has gained extensive experience working closely with students, faculty, alumni, and friends of the college, as well as community organizations and campus departments.

“James brings to Hartwick a strong background in both higher education and communications,” Dr. Margaret L. Drugovich, Hartwick College President, said. “His experience and expertise will be a strong addition to the College’s marketing and communications efforts.”

At Hartwick, Jolly will report to Vice President for Enrollment Management David Conway, who will assume the title of Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing, effective August 1.

Jolly will oversee the Office of Marketing & Communications, and will foster relationships with campus departments and the community. He will be responsible for the College’s public relations efforts, including the development and implementation of a College-wide integrated marketing and communications program. He also will work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators on design implementation and editorial direction of the College’s publications.

“Hartwick is a dynamic and outstanding college that provides truly valuable learning experiences in and out of the classroom,” Jolly said. “I am excited to join a visionary leadership team and work with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to create an even greater college. We will build on Hartwick’s strengths and raise it to new heights.”

Prior to his time at Coker College, Jolly was vice president of North American Precis Syndicate. He also has held positions with ProServ, an international sports marketing and management company in Arlington, VA, and Washington, DC; and Radford University in Virginia. He has more than 18 years of experience in national and regional strategic public relations, media relations, and integrated marketing communications, including 14 years in higher education. He received his bachelor’s degree from Radford University in Virginia. He is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and College News Association of the Carolinas, and his work has been twice recognized by CASE for capital campaign and alumni fundraising efforts.
